Golf Practice Drills to Cure that Slice

The golf slice is one of the most common golf swing faults.  For right handed golfers, the golf slice is a golf shot that starts left of the target and finishes right of the target.

There are several critical golf practice drills that can help you fix the golf slice rather quickly by instilling the proper movements in your golf swing and giving you the right “feeling” of a well-hit golf shot.

Here are two fantastic golf slice drills recommended by top PGA instructors.  Perform these golf practice drills for a few minutes then return to your normal swing.   You will be amazed at how quickly your golf slice is fixed!

RIGHT FOOT BACK GOLF SLICE DRILL
Corrects the golf slice caused by out to in swings and encourages proper in to square to in swing path.
1.Perform this drill at half-speed using a 7-iron and teed ball.
2.Take narrow stance, then pull your right foot back 1 foot.
3.Swing along IN-SQUARE-IN swing path and make contact with the ball.  Do not worry about distance, but focus on hitting a solid, straight golf shot.
4.Hit 5 to 10 shots, while noting your swing path through to release and finish positions of swing.
5.Remove the tee and hit several solid, straight golf shots at half speed off the ground with the right foot back.
6.As you feel comfortable with your golf shots, gradually bring your right foot back even with your left foot.
7.Re-create the same “feel” of a well struck golf shot as you gradually increase the speed of your swing.

BACK TO TARGET GOLF SLICE DRILL
Corrects the golf slice by encouraging IN-SQUARE-IN swing path and club release
1.Perform this golf slice drill at half-speed with 7-iron and teed ball.
2.Select your target and assume normal setup.
3.Leaving arms in position and club face square to target, rotate your feet 45° with your back directed toward the target.
4.Swing along body line and hit 5 to 10 shots. Note that in this setup you will have a clear, IN-SQUARE-IN swing path.
5.Return to your normal golf swing.

Golf Slice Cure- Easy Steps to Resolve the Problem

One of the most common golf flight faults encountered by golfers is to “slice” the golf ball.  To identify if you are slicing the golf ball, check out your ball flight.  For right handed golfers, a golf slice occurs when the golf ball starts left of the target and then curves right of the target (often far right of the target)!

Here are several of our favorite golf slice practice drills to use on the driving range to help cure your golf slice instantly!

Golf Slice Tee Drill

Benefits

Helps corrects slices caused by OUT-IN swings and encourages proper IN-SQUARE-IN swing path.

Steps

1. Place two tees and a golf ball right to left diagonally (think of tic tac toe) with a tee in the upper right quadrant, your golf ball in the middle and another tee in the lower left quadrant.  Make sure to leave about four inches of spacing from each tee to the golf ball.
2. Assume normal setup and ball position with 7-iron.
3. Your goal is to hit the ball crisply without hitting either of the tees.

This golf slice drill is helpful because it forces you to take the proper IN-SQUARE-IN swing path to impact.  A common cause of the golf slice is to cut across the golf ball with an OUT-TO-IN golf swing (also known as “over the top”) which can put clockwise spin on the ball and send the ball left to right.  With the “golf slice tee drill” if you swing OUT-TO-IN you will hit the first and/or second tee.

Golf Slice "Right Foot Back"

Benefits

This golf slice drill helps correct also encourages the proper IN-SQUARE-IN swing path.

Steps

1. Use a 7-iron and a teed up golf ball and perform this golf practice drill at half speed.
2. Take narrow stance, then place your right foot back one foot.
3. Make sure to swing along IN – TO – SQUARE – TO – IN wing path and make solid ball contact.
4. As you begin to hit solid golf shots, bring your right foot back even with your left foot and hit golf shots without the tee.

Now you don’t miss the opportunity to enhance your confidence on the golf course. Bring these drills in your daily practice routines to lower your golf handicap.

Easy Way to Fix your Golf Slice Shot

The golf slice fault is probably the most common golf swing fault for most golfers. A golf slice shot is a swing fault that occurs when your golf ball starts left of your target (for right handers) then curves to the right of your target.

Below, we provide a few key golf slice tips to fix your golf slice.

What Causes the Golf Slice Shot?

1.Poor alignment toward the target: For example, you could be aligned too far left of the target.
2.Too weak of a golf grip (in other words, your golf grip is rotated to the left of the grip from the neutral position). This can cause the club face to open and when you make contact with the ball, the ball shoots to the right.
3.Your club swing path is “out to in” or “over the top.” This action alone can cause the golf ball to go left, but when combined with an open club face, you can impart clockwise spin on the ball which causes the golf ball to start left, then spin far to the right.

How to Fix Golf Slice Shots

To fix your golf slice shot, follow these quick golf tips:

1.Align your body and golf stance parallel to the target.  To help with alignment, visualize standing on a rail line with your body standing on the closest rail and the golf ball is on the farther rail.
2.Check your grip and make sure it is neutral.  To check that you have a neutral grip, make sure you see only two knuckles (forefinger and middle finger) of your left hand and that the “V’s” formed from the creases of forefingers and thumbs of both hands point between right ear and right shoulder.
3.Take some practice swings in slow motion and check that your swingpath is not “over the top” or “out to in,” but straight down the target line toward your target.
4.Do some slow motion practice swings and check that the face of your club is “square” at impact.

Practice these golf slice fixes regularly.  Soon your golf slice fault will be a thing of the past!

Golf Slice Cure Practice Drills to Improve Golf Shot

One of the most common golf swing faults is to “slice” the golf ball.  A golf slice, for right handed golfers, is a golf shot that starts left of the target and finishes right of the target.

To fix the golf slice, there are several critical practice drills that can help you engrain the proper golf swing movements into your golf swing and give you the right “feeling” of a well-executed golf shot.  Below is a favorite golf slice drill recommended by many PGA pros – the “Right Foot Back” practice drill.  Once you have checked your setup and executed this golf practice drill for a few minutes, return to your normal swing.  You will be surprised at how quickly your golf slice is fixed!

SWING SETUP CHECKPOINTS

1. Check your grip and ensure your clubface is square to the ball (as opposed to open).
2. At setup, make sure you are in a “square” stance, with your body parallel to your target line.
3. Check your swing path from backswing to impact to follow through and ensure it follows an “in to square to in” path toward the target line.
4. Keep your body synchronized throughout your backswing, impact, follow-through and finish positions.

RIGHT FOOT BACK GOLF SLICE DRILL

Corrects golf slices caused by out to in swings and encourages proper in to square to in swing path.

1. Perform this drill at half-speed using a 7-iron and teed ball.
2. Take narrow stance, then pull your right foot back 1 foot.
3. Swing along IN-SQUARE-IN swing path and make contact with the ball.  Do not worry about distance, but focus on hitting a solid, straight golf shot.
4. Hit 5 to 10 shots, while noting your swing path through to release and finish positions of swing.
5. Remove the tee and hit several solid, straight golf shots at half speed off the ground with the right foot back.
6. As you feel comfortable with your golf shots, gradually bring your right foot back even with your left foot.
7. Re-create the same “feel” of a well struck golf shot as you gradually increase the speed of your swing.
